My Report Card *gasp*

ok, this is bothering me, and i'd like to do a rant about it, if of course you all don't mind. well... technically you don't really have a choice... whatever.

anyway, i got grades between 70 and 90 in all except one of my subjects (that being chemistry, where i got a 56). now, given my current choice of future options, i realize that colleges will be looking at my grade 11 grades. however, i fail to see how the mark i got in chemistry grade 11 would have much, if any, bearing on whether or not i can apply for an ARTS degree. an arts degree (in case you arent familiar with one) is english, sociology, phycology, history ect. NO science involved. ok so, my mom saw my chemistry mark and was like "omg! you have no future you need to get better marks or you'll never get into college!" granted those werent her exact words, but thats the gist i got. she then proceeded to get on my case about math and how i need to do good in it (math being a course i have this semester, not that one). and i was just like "yea, uh huh, i know" because her points were either invalid, or had no bearing on what she was trying to get across. now one would think that when a kid gets ONE bad mark on their report card (this would include exam marks) their parents would be able to see that one mark clearly wasnt as much of an indication as to how their kid was doing in school as opposed to 3 other marks. however, apparently here we go by the low denominator, and that gives an unparalleled report of the childs school performance overall. never mind that in other classes, they were considered "an asset to the class" or "a pleasure to teach" or various other fond comments. no no, they must be judged solely on their worst mark, because that is how they are doing in all their classes.

now ill admit that i have, in the past, had a tendency to not do my homework or to not pass in an assignment here and there. however, this semester (in which i am taking 2 grade 11 courses as well as a grade 12 course) i have done all my homework, as well as had all class assignments in early. but of course, that has nothing to do with anything, and i am clearly doing badly. in addition, if i "don't start doing better" i cannot go to Adam's anymore through the week, this (in case you didnt know) being the place where i actually DO my homework. but alas, this again is irrevelent.
