heylo! guess we're not goin to germany today... but intead early tomorrow morning; the train we were going to go and take was going to be arriving to late.
holland is sooooo gorgeous. :) there are windmills and canals EVERYWHERE lol. there is also alot of art history stuff here. the place that we went this morning maria might have wanted to see; it was a house where rembrandt (i think that's the way to spell his name) lived for a large part of his career. there were many of his rints that he had done. they were made from etched (bad spelling i think) brass plates. our art teacher was telling us a little bit about those.
you would laugh if you could see all the bikes here... lol... they are the most common means of transportation, second being by boating in the canals. ool. lol. anyways... i think you put one post up like three or four times... any reason??? i think your comp was praly being slow.... lol... this one did that to me this morning (sry about the two posts from me that are the same). and i'm having quite the time trying to get to the page i can post from. :S
it's been really neat going to art museums as well, and it's boggling to think of all the history of this place. the buildings are all SOOOOOOO old. i am starting to be able to read some basic dutch signs now too ;) it's a cross between latin and germanic roots, so lots of the words are a little traceble when written... but when people are speaking... OOL i'm so lost....
all the buildings in amsterdam are tall and thin, and go far back from the road. we were told that this was because people used to have to pay their taxes on how much space the house took on the canal. so some of the houses are barely two metres wide, but like four or even fife stories high. and they have these weird hooks near the top (normally just above the attic window) that i just found out are for hauling furniture up into the house, becuase the stairs are so high and narrow and twisty. but i really like it here... nearly no cars, it's all either bikes or public transport (bus, tram, subway, train, canal boats). allthough i've been nearly run over with a bike on a number of occasions.
i do miss you sooooo much, and we really must get together again when i get back. maybe get everyone together..... hmmm..... i'll think on that one. lol.... i WOULD have it at my house.... but i think you know my reluctance. i'll see though. wicsys
